Kendrick Lamar, you could write a lot about this guy. Since premeiring his debut album, he has been regarded as one of the most influential artists, and greatest rappers of his generation and is solidified into the pantheon of all time greats. Born and raised in Compton, California, Kendrick, formerly known under the stage name K-Dot, has risen to legendary status. His albums Good Kid M.A.A.D City, To Pimp A Butterfly, and DAMN are among the best hip hop albums of all time. The last even gave him a Pulitzer Prize (The first artist to recieve one outsize the genres of Jazz and Classical) to go along with his 13 grammys he has won during the course of his career.
The 2nd variation I have of this piece has the poems that Kendrick reads/recites on his song Mortal Man. The first poem is slowly being revealed piece by piece between the songs. Each line pertaining to the songs being revealed and adding meaning and context. It is a story of character devlopment in Kendrick's attempt to change the world. The 2nd poem Kendrick read's in response to a Tupac interview. He said it was written by a friend of his and the poem is an amazing take on society that ties in the title of the project. To Pimp A Butterfly. I would definitely recommend listening to the album. 10/10
